Q&A with Sandrine Garnier: Coatings Industry Trends
PPCJ spoke to Sandrine Garnier Ph.D., a recently appointed Director of The ChemQuest Group, about her plans for her new role and her views on the biggest trends and challenges facing the coatings industry at the moment.
WEBINAR: More than Just Wood – Low-Temp Cure Powder Coating Technology
As powder coating applications for medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and hardwoods become more commonplace, low-temperature-cure powder coating technology is evolving as an option to finish a variety of non-traditional substrates like plastics, composites, and molding compounds. In partnership with the American Coatings Association, ChemQuest director Kevin Biller presented a webinar discussing “More than Just Wood—Low-Temp Cure Technology Opens Up a World of New Substrates for Powder Coatings” on July 13. The webinar identified the emerging powder technologies and application techniques that will serve these innovative end uses.
WHITE PAPER: What is Business Cycle Analysis?
Business Cycle Analysis is a vital aspect of economic analysis, guiding decision making for businesses, investors, and policymakers. At ChemQuest, we recognize its importance in strategic planning. However, we have learned through Voice of Customer that many of our clients are not using Business Cycle Analysis in their current forecasting and data analysis.
Our Coatings TraQr™ platform provides a powerful Business Cycle Analysis tool that allows you to track indicators within the business cycle. This gives you a competitive edge by enabling you to make informed strategic decisions ahead of your competitors.
Don’t look now, but PFAS is EVERYWHERE!
These are uncertain times with regard to PFAS that are of critical importance for a variety of applications in a number of vitally important global industries. While nothing is currently certain, it is likely that common sense will prevail in the long term. At worst, PFAS for certain applications will be declared “set asides,” enabling their use in critical areas to continue. At best, the global regulatory agencies will consult with each other to decide upon appropriate scientific (rather than knee jerk) approaches to determining which PFAS actually pose threats to human life and the environment. As with most things, it is likely that Aristotle’s “Golden Mean” (the midpoint between extremes) will prevail, and we will have neither the best nor the worst outcome with regard to the PFAS issue.
Emerging Technical Trends in the Powder Coating Industry
Innovation in powder coating technology is alive and well thanks to the creativity and hard work of powder formulators and polymer scientists. The emerging needs of the dynamic industrial coatings industry are being met by a renewed effort to innovate and provide ecologically friendly and sustainable powder technology. The latest advancements are opening up new opportunities in alternative substrates, e-transportation, highly corrosive environments, and thin film powder coatings.
WEBINAR: Process Optimization and Overall Equipment Effectiveness
The first webinar in our Operational and Manufacturing Excellence limited webinar series in partnership with the American Coatings Association, “Process Optimization & Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE),” was held June 22. ChemQuest director Robert Kramer detailed operational efficiency, yields, margins, and quality that translate to increased EBITDA. Attendees gained an understanding of the development and implementation of key performance indicators (KPIs) for maximum profitability (ROI), as well as methods to implement and sustain improvements in manufacturing operations, processes, SKUs, and production.
