Our team developed a hybrid strategy to hit the company’s growth target, including an actionable approach for execution and examples of attractive bolt-on or tuck-in acquisitions.
The Challenge
A polymer materials producer serving diverse markets (e.g., building and construction, automotive, battery, medical, packaging, and communication) sought to take advantage of changes in the marketplace to accelerate growth.
ChemQuest was tasked with evaluating current markets and end-use applications, alternative technical approaches, and design trends. We were further asked to identify and assess opportunities, ultimately developing a strategy with a detailed and actionable plan based on organic and inorganic growth.
Multi-Pronged Assessment Initiatives
This project was undertaken in three main areas: markets, opportunities, and strategies.
Market
Assessment
- Assessed the size and growth potential of end-use applications by technology and company share
- Assessed the competitive landscape and attractiveness, SWOT, and Porter’s Five Forces analysis
Opportunity
Assessment
- Conducted interviews in each identified end use to assess satisfaction, areas for improvement, trends, and unmet needs
- Undertook secondary market research regarding technologies, product solutions, and approaches, as well as competitive portfolio analysis
- Profiled and developed organic and inorganic growth concepts by rating attractiveness and quantifying and evaluating alignment to company strategy/targets (Pugh Analysis)
Strategy
Assessment
- Our team completed a decision and risk analysis (D&RA) of the potential range of EBITDA for the base business, as well as new opportunities, using statistical methods.
The Results
ChemQuest recommended a hybrid strategy to hit the company’s growth target. Our team further provided recommendations for a marketing approach to revamp the client’s image.
We identified trends and the most attractive (and unattractive) areas, with a recommended, actionable approach for strategy execution. Lastly, we recommended examples of attractive bolt-on or tuck-in acquisitions to complement the strategy.
