When an appropriate off-the-shelf powder coating could not be found, ChemQuest Powder Coating Research developed a custom formulation that met regulatory requirements while providing the required appearance and performance.

The Challenge

A supplier of aftermarket automotive parts was challenged by their state regulatory agency to discontinue the use of TGIC-containing powder coatings. (TGIC has been shown to be harmful to the eyes, central nervous system, kidneys, lungs, and other areas.)

Alternative materials provided by the incumbent supplier had lower performance and did not cure under the same conditions. ChemQuest Powder Coating Research (CQPCR) was tasked with matching the appearance and performance of the previous material.

Product Development and Commercialization

The CQPCR team supported the client through focused formulation development and scale-up/commercialization, as well as ongoing technical support.
