Masking decals for powder coating: Is there any kind of high-temperature material that could be used to make masking designs in powder coating?

Q: I’ve being wondering for a long time and asking people (without getting any answer!) if there is any kind of high-temp vinyl or decal-like material that could be used with a vinyl cutter to make masking designs and also hold the up to 400° curing cycle?

A: I think I know what you’re looking for and to answer your question – yes, masking decals exist. As a matter of fact, they are quite common and readily available. However, vinyl is not used because it will distort and degrade at typical powder bake conditions.

Shercon makes a variety of masking products, including plugs, caps, and adhesive films. Echo Supply and EPSI also supply these products. They can be easily cut to provide a high-quality mask that will survive typical powder coating baking conditions.
